April 2009

Posted on: April 1st, 2009 by Martek Pharmacal

Topamax (Topiramate) is now available in generic strengths of 25mg, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg tablets. We expect to receive the 25mg bottles of 1000ct the week of April 6th. There will be several manufacturers of Topiramate, so we expect generic prices to remain low.

Mikart is hoping to resume production of Phendimetrazine 35mg tablets by the end of April. They had announced a $20 per bottle price increase just prior to their production issues, so we are unsure how this will affect the price when product becomes available.

Actavis does not expect to resume production of Phentermine and Phendimetrazine until the 4th quarter of this year.

Time Cap is expected to resume production on the 2 grain and 3 grain Thyroid tablets by the end of April.

We mailed our April 2009 product flier on March 30th. If you are a dispensing physician and would like to receive this flier, please call us at 866-839-4840 and we will fax or email it to you.

Watson Laboratories is still restricting shipments of controlled substance medications to distributors. We apologize that have not been able to fill complete orders for our customers on the Diethylpropion 75mg. We will continue to ship partial orders until Watson resumes normal shipping volumes. Since the majority of our customers have switched to the CorePharma brand of the Diethylpropion 25mg tablets, we have not had any issues meeting demand for that product strength.

We still do not have any new information regarding the expected production dates for Phendimetrazine by Mikart or Phentermine by Actavis. Since Sandoz is the only generic available for the Phendimetrazine 35mg tablets, we are advising our customers to slowly stockpile their inventory in case of an unannounced price increase or future supply issue.

Time Cap is currently only manufacturing the Thyroid ½ grain and 1 grain tablets. Once the production issue with the raw material manufacturer is resolved, Time Cap will resume production on the 2 grain and 3 grain Thyroid tablets.

We will be mailing our April product flier around March 26th. If you have not received this flier by the end of the first week of April, please call us at 866-839-4840 and we will fax or email it to you.

Watson Laboratories is restricting shipments of controlled substance medications to disbributors. This will affect the supply and price of their Diethylpropion 25mg and 75mg tablets. We currently only have a limited supply of Watson product in stock, however, we have a large inventory of Diethylpropion 25mg by CorePharma.

Mikart and Actavis still do not have an expected production date for Phendimetrazine and Phentermine. Actavis is working with the FDA to resume production and is hoping to have the Phentermine 37.5mg tablets available by the summer. Mikart has not been communicating with distributors on their situation. It is rumored that both the FDA and DEA are investigating Mikart’s production practices, although we have not been able to confirm this rumor.

We are currently running an “unadvertised specials” promotion, which will be emailed to all of our customers on 02/03/09. If you have not received this email, please call us and we will resend via fax or email.

Product Update

With regard to the production issues of Actavis and Mikart, nothing has changed since last month. We do not have an expected production date, but are hoping to receive product before the end of the first quarter 2009.

We have received positive feedback from our customers on the new Diethylpropion 25mg tablet by CorePharma. This product is a round, white tablet similar to the Watson brand, but slightly smaller in diameter. We are running a special on this product during January and February. CorePharma expects to begin production on Diethylpropion 75mg later this year.

CorePharma is now manufacturing Diethylpropion 25mg white round tablets. Their price is approximately $3.00 cheaper than the Watson brand on the 100 count bottles. CorePharma expects to have Diethylpropion 75mg ER tablets available in 2009.

Mikart continues to have problems obtaining raw materials for Phendimetrazine 35mg tablets. The Mikart Phendimetrazine 35mg blue, white and yellow tablets will not be available until early 2009. Fortunately, we have a large supply of the Phendimetrazine 35mg yellow tablets by Sandoz and the Bontril 35mg green/yellow tablets by Valeant.
